Dark-Matter Electric and Magnetic Dipole Moments

چکیده
We consider the consequences of a neutral dark-matter particle with a nonzero electric and/or magnetic dipole moment. Theoretical constraints, as well as constraints from direct searches, precision tests of the standard model, the cosmic microwave background and matter power spectra, and cosmic gamma rays, are included. We find that a relatively light particle with mass between an MeV and a few GeV and an electric or magnetic dipole as large as ∼ 3 × 10e cm (roughly 1.6× 10 μB) satisfies all experimental and observational bounds. Some of the remaining parameter space may be probed with forthcoming more sensitive direct searches and with the Gamma-Ray Large Area Space Telescope.

Dipolar Dark Matter
If dark matter (DM) has non-zero direct or transition, electric or magnetic dipole moment then it can scatter nucleons electromagnetically in direct detection experiments. Using the results from experiments like XENON, CDMS, DAMA and COGENT we put bounds on the electric and magnetic dipole moments of DM. If DM consists of Dirac fermions with direct dipole moments, then DM of mass less than 10 G...
متن کاملDynamics of a Magnetic Monopole in Matter, Maxwell Equations in Dyonic Matter and Detection of Electric Dipole Moments
For a monopole, the analogue of the Lorentz equation in matter is shown to be f = g (H − v × D). Dual-symmetric Maxwell equations, for matter containing hidden magnetic charges in addition to electric ones, are given. They apply as well to ordinary matter if the particles possess T-violating electric dipole moments. Two schemes of experiments for the detection of such moments in macroscopic pie...
متن کاملHow Dark is ‘Dark’? Electromagnetic Interactions in the Dark Sector
We review the physical and cosmological consequences of two possible electromagnetic couplings to the dark sector: (i) a neutral lightest dark-matter particle (LDP) with nonzero electric and/or magnetic dipole moments and (ii) a charged next-to-lightest dark-matter particle (NLDP) which decays to a neutral LDP. For scenario (i) we find that a relatively light particle with mass between a few Me...
متن کاملMSSM baryogenesis and electric dipole moments: an update on the phenomenology
We explore the implications of electroweak baryogenesis for future searches for permanent electric dipole moments in the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). From a cosmological standpoint, we point out that regions of parameter space that over-produce relic lightest supersymmetric particles can be salvaged only by assuming a dilution of the particle rel...

The technibaryon constitutes a possible dark matter candidate. Such a particle with electroweak quantum numbers is already nearly ruled out as the dominant component of the galactic dark matter by nuclear recoil experiments. Here, the scattering of singlet technibaryons, without electroweak quantum numbers, is considered. For scalar technibaryons the most important interaction is the charge rad...
